GETTING TO VIEQUES FROM SAN JUAN

To reach Vieques from Puerto Rico, you can either fly or take a ferry. We strongly recommend booking flights to/from Vieques from one of San Juan’s two airports. Flying is the most reliable option and surprisingly cost effective versus the ferry once you take transportation costs from San Juan to/from the ferry terminal in Ceiba into account. You might also consider taking a flight to Vieques and a ferry on the way home.

Flights

San Juan international is your connection to the “main island” of Puerto Rico. For flying to Vieques, you can fly from SJU on Cape Air or Seaborne, or with Vieques Air Link from San Juan Isla Grande or Ceiba airports. Flights range from $40-150 one way depending on the airport.

Ferry

The ferry leaves from Ceiba. Allow an hour and a half to two hours to drive from San Juan to Ceiba. The ferry is inexpensive but can also be unreliable and can have major delays, so be prepared for an adventure! Try to get on a fast passenger ferry. View the schedule at puertoricoferry.com

Car Rentals

We highly recommend looking into a rental car as soon as you can, as Vieques is short on rentals. A Jeep or 4×4 will get you to our best beaches.
We highly recommend Maritza’s Car Rental.

Also try Vieques Car Rental, Island Rentals, Coqui, or Avis. You can’t bring a rental car from the main island, it’s not allowed. Taxis are also available – the main company is at 787-741-TAXI.
